The Starry Messenger is an entertaining educational film drama being made by members of the centre for astrophysics research at the university of hertfordshire.
The Starry Messenger is a sort of rags-to-riches, "what if" time-travelling saga (and more than a little tongue-in-cheek...)
Celeste Heavens, a bored, put-upon janitorial assistant at a university observatory, hates her life and daydreams about being a real astronomer. If only she hadn't been so bad at maths at school! One day, an encounter with an egnimatic "messenger from the stars", called Quicksilver, opens up old wounds and changes her life - and everyone else's - forever...
The film is themed and timed to tie in with the international year of astronomy 2009 - celebrating 400 years since galileo first trained his telescope on the heavens...
Aimed at GCSE-level school pupils, it will serve not only as a teaching aid, but as a way of inspiring teenagers to study physics at a-level and beyond.
