ANDY DUNKIN lives in one of hell's outer levels. At least that's how he sees it. Trapped in a bleak, industrial inner city, he spends his time working as a janitor at a medical university, visiting his invalid mother and schizophrenic sister, and closing himself up in a small, dreary apartment away from human contact. And each day he slips further into madness.
One night, Andy finds a killer's pistol in a park on his way home from work. Believing he's been chosen as a soldier for God, he sets out on a killing spree, hoping to break Satan's hold on the city by ridding it of its more sinister inhabitants.
The killings attract the attention of the assassin who hid the pistol. He's eager to retrieve his property and kill the asshole who’s ruining his reputation. At the same time, a detective who's being blackmailed by a sleazy private investigator tries to solve the murders while battling his own demons.
Andy's only friend is a pretty heroin addict who has turned to prostitution to support her habit. She sees Andy as sweet and naive, unaware of his dark calling.
All these lives intersect in a dark, dismal city where the lines of morality and illusion blur and there is no escaping from the damnation they create for themselves. Maybe salvation is the one thing that will damn him!
