The Top and the Bottom follows the story of Joe, a thirty-something male who during the opening scene we find on the rooftop of the party he has just left. It is clear to the audience what he has come up there to do, but he finds himself interrupted by Jemma, Simon and Byron, all casual acquaintances, who come to the roof oblivious to his intentions. He continually makes indirect cries for help, which are all but ignored by the other characters, who are all preoccupied with their own problems.

The Top and the Bottom is a film that seeks to create awareness of mental health issues. We have all been guilty at one time or another of ignoring another’s problems in favour of our own. Sometimes we don’t notice the cries for help until it is too late, and this is a very sad thing.

Looking to shoot mid-late July, with rehearsals in June. Project is unpaid, but will be a fantastic addition to your showreel. We are also seeking funding from various charities, and if successful, will offer you great exposure.

Location: New South Wales, Australia

Payment details: no pay

Jemma

Jemma is attractive and normally composed, but becomes a bit of a trash bag after a few drinks/joints. She is a little unstable at times, swears like a trooper, and tends to give more information than is needed. Jemma unknowingly interrupts Joe as he is about to do the unthinkable.

Joe

Joe is the driving character of the film. He is introverted and suffers from depression, but would prefer not to burden others with the fact. He sneaks out of the party to the roof of the building to finally put an end to his pain and sadness. He is stocky, but not overweight.

Facial hair, or the ability to grow facial hair, is required for this character.

Byron

Byron sneaks up onto the roof to hide his cocaine from his wheelchair bound mother, who he has invited to the party as his date. He is also oblivious to what is really transpiring on the rooftop. He is a wannabe hipster, but the kind who is a tad too old to be one to begin with. Byron never takes life too seriously, and is a bit of a jokester.

Would prefer an actor with red hair, but this is not essential.
