Alex’s mother and holds herself responsible for Alex’s accident. She’s unable to cope with the idea of never holding him again and never seeing him grow up to become a man. Nicole hates the group therapy that she feels she must go to because it’s what the normal thing to do. She doesn’t understand how wallowing in lost and sadness is supposed to help and heal also starting to resent how quickly it seems Shawn is moving on, she doesn’t feel he’s grieved enough for the loss of their first child.

He is Alex’s father. Everyday that Shawn wakes leaves him wondering how he’s going to get through the day without breaking into tears. He feels he needs to be strong for Nicole, if he isn’t a crutch for her to lean on then he doesn’t know what his place in this world is now. He doesn’t know how to care for Nicole’s grieving and manage his own.

Reagan’s mother is a heartbroken woman living in a universe that she can’t comprehend. After Reagan’s father ran out of them, she began working double shifts to just put food in their mouths. Just as she thought she finally met the one, a horrible accident takes both his life and Reagan’s. Molly’s friends and family are there for her but even through group she struggles to find a meaning to waking up in the morning.

The leader of the “Life After Loss” group counseling, she her lost a child many years ago after several years of drug abuse. While she knows she’ll never be able to replace the hole in her life left by the death of her daughter but she uses it as something that she lived through and made her a stronger person. She hopes that she may be able to pass on some of her strength is passed onto the other members of the group.
