General Xenophobus is a powerful man in the army of Athens, Circa 400 B.C. He is highly motivated, energetic and extremely patriotic. Gen. Xenophobus believes in playing by the rules and counts himself a person of high moral standards. His vanity is shrouded in super ego justification.

Larry is the head of an ad agency in Washington, DC (USA). He is blunt in speech and style but far from stupid. His ambition is linked with a deep cynicism about the political process in the US and political power. He is something of a Salesman who believes strongly in his own persuasive abilities and intelligence.

Our Socrates has a dry sense of humour and is portrayed toward the end of his life. He is fiercely principled and stubborn with strong leadership qualities. He is a veteran of several disastrous battles. He was in the Ancient Greek infantry (served as a hoplite). There is no shortage of information (mostly speculative) on Socrates. Research is a good idea.

Our Aristophanes is a brilliant schemer who holds a grudge against Socrates. A grudge he won't let go. As an Ancient Greek aristocrat, Aristophanes tends to be haughty in manner and speech. He is a highly motivated, energetic individual. He endorses a very conservative view of prescriptive politics. He is an elitist. Again, research is a good idea.

Belinda is a hardworking, intelligent woman. She works at an ad agency in Washington, DC. Belinda is no innocent and she is generally very politically astute and cautious. She is also lonely in a town where loyalty is hard to come by. Her family background is a mystery to me, what about you?

Octrigon is an educated, highly trained slave in Ancient Greece, Circa 400 B.C. He is more intelligent than the average person and has a somewhat artistic temperament. He is a musician. He is also highly loyal and brave. he is particularly brave when it comes to those he cares for, like his kind master Strepsiades and Strepsiades' son, Haysohippides.

Neirinthia is a highly intelligent and attractive young woman living in Ancient Greece, Circa 400 B.C. She is of the Metic class. Her mother is an innkeeper and Neirinthia is ambitious and confident, looking for a way out of drudgery and class prejudice. She also is finding herself drawn to a certain Haysohippides. The son of Strepsiades in our play. Research is a very good idea.

General Nicias was a real General in Ancient greece. He led several military campaigns. His "credentials" include friend of Socrates, Plato, Gen. Acibiades. He was a firm supporter of Socrates and commended him for his military valour. He was one of the Generals who presided over the defeat of Athens in the Peloponnesian wars. He is tough, intelligent and very smart. Research is required for this role.

Plenides is a role which requires playing the character at different ages. He is a talented student of Socrates. While later he is an aide-de-camp for General Xenophobus. Plenides is vain and ambitious. His conviction that he should "be in charge" will get him in trouble. When he sees his chance, his "better nature" gets lost in the shuffle. Like almost every character in the play, he lives in Ancient Greece, Circa 400 B.C.

Corey is an ambitious Salesman & Marketing man living and working in Washington D.C. (U.S.A.) . He works at the ad agency where Frank and the other contemporary characters work. Frank is a blustery guy who tries to conceal his insecurity. He is manipulative and intelligent but not quite as slick as he imagines. He is also strongly religious and believes that somehow he is "fighting the good fight". Research is necessary.
