In Other Words Theatre is a new (non-equity) company based in Nanaimo that specializes in devised theatre, artistic collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches to storytelling. We are holding general auditions for the 2012/2013 season, and are looking for trained actors who are interested in working collectively to produce uniquely stimulating theatre. Mental and physical flexibility is desirable; improvisation skills are an asset. A willingness to work ‘without a net’ (i.e. without a script) is crucial.
Both male and female actors ages 18 – 40 are welcome.
The audition process will consist of a two distinct parts. The first will be a 2 minute prepared piece (modern). Feel free to stretch the traditional mold of a monologue if you wish, but be sure your piece is well rehearsed and offers honest character work in an engaging and entertaining way. Movement-based work and clown are acceptable if you integrate voice and speech. The second part will consists of a 30-40 minute group workshop that includes improvisation, movement and material creation. Expect to be at the theatre for 1 ½ -2 hours. Please bring water, comfortable clothes, and come prepared to play.
