Mallory first appears in the "second" Doctor's first story, Rich People's Mansion, which is about strange events occuring in a mansion, in Victorian England, owned by a rich couple. Mallory is one of the servants there. She first comes of as being vey polite, but soon after she starts travelling with the Doctor, she shows that she can be quite forward and blunt when she doesn't have to play the servant anymore.

Ade is a guide robot for tourists on Station 78 where the "fourth" Doctor's second story, Bribe the Tour Guide, takes place. In the story a group of people, who are against the tourist activity the station has been filled with, tries to trick the guide robots using the station's economic system.

Aeson firs appears the "third" Doctors first story, Janitors of Redroad, taking place in an old colony. Redroad is a festival street in the colony that constantly has to be taken care of by a group of janitors. One day someone starts to kill off these janitors one by one. Aeson is one of the janitors who isn't killed. He's a quite cautious man, but is also very loyal to his friends, and later also the Doctor.

Chin Yu first appears in the "fourth" Doctor's first story, School's Out, where a couple of high school teaches are posessed by something and keeps the students in school though their supposed to graduate. Chin Yu is one of these students. He parents are Chinese and very strict, though she herself is born (and grew up) in England. She is very kind and polite and finds it hard to "break rules" in the beginning of her travels with the Doctor.
