OMEGA is a 30-minute psychological science-fiction thriller set within the confines of a small space-craft. It began as a 30-minute short for a QUT Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, however it has since taken on a life of its own in Brisbane’s film making community, bringing together an eclectic group of industry professionals, ameteur filmmakers and students.

The pre-production phase is rapidly drawing to a close and we are looking for additional people to join us in the push up to production. It involves the construction of a full-scale interior set of the spacecraft 50 meters long and an exterior model which will be approximately 4 meters long (1:25) .

The production crew has mainly been filled, with the exception of a few roles listed below, however as a priority we are seek assistance preparing for the shoot which begins 20 August 2012. Specifically, we are in need of set construction workers or people generally being able to assist in the art department and setting up unit.

Those interested in working in the miniatures department will be mentored by Stephen Thrum, lead model maker from Superman Returns, Ghost Ship and Peter Pan. People joining the art department crew join a dedicated group who work at all times of the day (some during work hours and some after work or on weekends), headed up by Art Director Basil Lancaster.

All activities will be carried out in a self-contained warehouse studio in Hamilton, a 10 minute drive from the Valley.

Pre-production tasks / roles include:
_painting, material collection and scavenging, set dressing + assisting the props department
_miniatures department technicians and assistants
_construction - framing and paneling for some remaining parts of the ship and unit areas.
_unit assistants and runners
_marketing advisor

Note: we will be looking for people who are also able to assist throughout parts the pack-down later in the year labeling and tagging of the set for storage, and for additional shooting in early 2013

Production
Most of our crew roles have been locked off but we are still looking for dedicated people in the camera, lighting, grips and unit department. To fill one of these roles we need you to commit 50-100% of your time to the shoot dates between 20 August and 10 September, depending on the role. Additionally there may be pick ups in October.


OMEGA is a low-budget independent film and all money we raise is poured into production, as such our crew are unpaid and work on a committed volunteer basis. However the response to the film has been overwhelming and the set is unique. Collaboration and mentorship is supported so it's fantastic experience for those wishing to learn new skills or add to their show reels.
