Hey folks. My name is Daniel, I'm a 21 year old guitarist/composer. I moved to London last year to focus on music full time. And while I honestly do love playing most styles of music, I have always had a great passion for classic, progressive and atmospheric rock and metal. I've played in a few bands within those styles back in my home country of Malta, but because of the greatly limited musical opportunities there, nothing ever really took off. Now I have learnt from the past, matured musically and personally, and feel like it's time to take it to the next level over here. This is why I would like to put together a band of like-minded and dedicated musicians with whom to create music and embark on this journey with. I've got a ton of song ideas that have yet to see the light of day, and hopefully they will be given life soon. The aim is to make this band a serious and professional outfit, not just a hobby or a way to pass some excess time, but something that is highly, highly ambitious and which will go far. Unfortunately I have been in a few bands where everybody was on very different levels of commitment and ambition, and while no one was to blame, it is almost impossible to make it work in such situations. Therefore ambition and drive will be at least as important as musical capabilities. Once songs have been written, gigs, recordings and tours will all become part of the agenda.
The sound of the band will doubtlessly be affected and crafted by all the individual members, because I believe that it is crucial for all members who wish to contribute musical ideas to do so... it will be a natural process and cannot be completely predetermined. In my mind, however, I envision something that is influenced by the hooks, melodies and classic vibe of Maiden, Saxon and WASP, the progressive and ambitious sounds of Opeth, Mastodon and Tool, and the atmosphere and ambience of Devin Townsend and Alcest. So as you can see, a healthy combination of classic old-school vibes with more modern and progressive elements. Obviously, we could very well come up with something else entirely which we all love, again, the process will occur naturally. External musical influences are also highly encouraged, anything from movie soundtracks to jazz fusion and anything in between. As I said previously, open-mindedness is key, since I believe that in order to come up with something unique and impactful in an already saturated musical crowd, one cannot simply stick to one tiny musical niche. With all that said, here are the musicians I would like to team up with and get the ball rolling:
--- vocalist (clean vocals... ideally with a versatile range, but this is secondary to strength and clarity of voice)
--- rhythm/harmony guitarist (I enjoy playing both rhythm and lead, and am not too concerned with blasting out 3 minute solos. I do however enjoy playing leads and have typically been given that role within bands, but that does not mean that the other guitarist has to be a strictly rhythm player...parts can be shared)
--- bassist
--- drummer
--- keyboardist (the aim is to have more of an atmospheric kind of keyboard sounds, ala Opeth or Porcupine Tree, where the keyboards add texture, colour and all sorts of cool FX to the songs)
Naturally, if you're a vocalist who plays any of the above instruments, then all better. Parts do not need to be rigidly allocated as one instrument/role per person. Also, it would be good if we could all be within the same age range, say between 18 and 25.
Please do get in touch if you are interested, and any questions, feel free to fire away :) I'm currently based in West London, but have no problem whatsoever in meeting up somewhere central or other parts of the city if needs be. I look forward to hearing from you!
