looking for someone to collaborate with

Greetings!

I am a contemporary, modern drummer, in the greater Seattle area with a focus on rock styles, but diverse experiences across jazz and world. I am also a multi-instrumentalist with a background in writing and vocals, with my main instruments being drums, percussion, vocals and guitar.

With a songwriting mentality as my guide, I strive to develop a voice for the song being played, with a focus on structure, arrangement and the essentials of what is best for the song. I enjoy composing rhythmic parts that transition across sections of the song, with the song. I receive and give feedback equally well, and always pay careful attention towards what writers of the material may wish to express.

I am presently looking for working with new people that appreciate these assets, and are looking for someone to collaborate with. My focus is more towards developing material that will be performed and recorded, with a partially/mostly established lineup of existing musicians, as opposed to new startup bands or individuals, and a focus on performance (of some kind) in the immediate future (within a few months is preferable, but let’s talk).

Everyone’s time is valuable, and various other commitments must always be considered. That said, I am available to make shows happen… and bring energy, ability, preparation, and humor to everything I do. I typically plan on one “physical” rehearsal a week, and review all songs/material remotely, so I am prepared to get the very most out of rehearsals. When the need arises, and can be available for often in various circumstances, but to be realistic, I would probably be challenged to rehearse regularly 2-4 times a week.
Again, let’s talk and see what is possible…

I can be a “hired gun” when the need arises, but my preference would be towards “less transitory” situations, that can develop into a longer-term relationship when possible. I already work as a professional artist/teacher/etc., so I have an income, but also desire to supplement my income, and feel that ALL musicians should be compensated in some way for their hard work on the stage, and in the studio. Please do not misunderstand; music is about expressing, sharing, and creating. I attempt to balance a desire to be treated like a professional, with respect towards what I have to offer, and what I contribute to musical, creative situations. By the way, I can also vocalize: on command. ;)

Please visit me on MySpace for examples of my drumming (mostly rock samples, but lots of variety here). I look forward to hearing from you, and appreciate your time reading this listing.

Have a great week!

Mark
