Kiddy-Fiddler on the Roof: Edinburgh 2008 looking for actors

Casting no. 65289  -  All regions, UK
Male and female actors in London required for musical satire for the Edinburgh fringe

Casting complete: Applications now closed.

The bad taste spectacle is back!

Location: London with performances in Edinburgh
Rehearsals begin late April/May - with the show performing throughout August.

Plot details:
--------------
The classic tale of ‘boy-worships-teacher, boy-gets-annoyed-with-teacher, boy-sets-off-mob-of-torch-wielding-vigilante-parents’ is back, and is heading to the Fringe 2008 with an all-new pepped-up book and rejuvenated score.

Townsville Comprehensive is an ailing school like any other - until the day teacher Arnold Finkler is falsely accused by one of his students. Rumour spreads and - encouraged by local agony aunt Jean McDonald, Townsville’s undisputed moral matriarch - the parents rally together, ready to do whatever it takes to clean up the neighbourhood...but will the truth prevail?

Moral outrage, betrayal, sex and secrets meet love, truth and friendship for the ultimate showdown - all through the medium of song!

'Kiddy-Fiddler on the Roof', a musical satire on tabloid hysteria and the middle England paranoia, which debuted in Feb 07 (to sell out audiences), this year goes to Edinburgh. We are looking to complete our cast of 18 (9M, 9F): we are seeking four versatile male and two female (preferably from an ethnic minority background) singer-actors with strong harmonization skills, good comic timing and some movement experience for a variety of roles (including all leads).

As usual for the Fringe, we ask that you are able to find accommodation of your own in Edinburgh for the duration of the run, or that you meet the costs of accommodation that we can find for you.

Potential applicants are advised that they must be available for the duration of the Fringe run (end of July and all of August), as well as for the rehearsal period.

Please note that we are looking for actors living in or very near London as we are unable to offer travel or subsistence expenses, or any payment for participation. Audition is by invitation only.

Casting:
---------
Please note that due to overwhelming response from female applicants, at this stage we are only actively seeking applications for two of our female roles from those who fit the ethnic criteria.

2 Females, (preferably from an ethnic background) The Chavettes - Mezzo/Alto/Alto Three gobby little madams with attitude (problems) who are the the eyes, ears and big fat mouth of the town.

Male / Any Ethnicity.Arnold Finkler - baritone with strong F
Dedicated teacher and long term bachelor with a 'secret' passion for Marigold Hardbody (just not enough confidence to ask her out) who finds himself at the centre of molestation allegations.

Male / Any Ethnicity.
Ronald Biggerstaff - Tenor (to A#) Old-fashioned disciplinarian and all round sexual deviant, Biggerstaff is the Headmaster of Townsville Comprehensive with an unsavoury past.

Tommy - Tenor (to G#) A pupil at Townsville Comprehensive; the sweet, well-meaning but ultimately friendless fat kid, who is just as much an outsider as Peter. It is absolutely CRUCIAL that the role be played by an obviously overweight actor with a boyish face.

Male / Any Ethnicity.
Greenwood - strong ensemble singer. Popular, athletic and very aggressive school bully who looks a bit older than his peers. Requires an actor able to combine darkly comic delivery with genuine menace.

Please apply now with your CV, covering letter and headshot, clearly stating vocal range and any past Fringe experience. Feel free to ask any questions about the show in your application.

Location: London
