I am a regular model for London art colleges (RAM#1320), as well as for painters and photographers in the UK and USA.
My primary interest is modelling in authentic Japanese costume, using my knowledge of traditional arts and culture, as well as my collection of over 100 kimonos. As an extension of this, I am an experienced wardrobe stylist, dressing other models, actors and presenters in kimonos from my collection. In this, as in all my activities, my aim is to present aspects of authentic Japanese culture in an accessible and enjoyable manner, as well as participating in the creation of intelligently beautiful images.
I have a light milk and honey Oriental complexion, very long dark hair (long enough to sit on!) and brown eyes.
I am happy to supply tearsheets and references from many photographers and other artists with whom I have worked in the USA and UK, and all the pictures in my StarNow portfolio are recent (2006 - 2008).
I charge sensible professional rates, but that buys you a professional attitude and use of my costumes and extensive collection of Japanese art equipment and materials. I am also a firm believer in flexible and mutually beneficial forms of barter, such as TFP & TFCD (Time For Prints or CD) as well as agreements to share profits from projects.
I combine modelling with my career as a lecturer of Japanese culture and a consultant to educational, cultural and commercial projects related to Japan. This gives me many useful contacts in the UK, USA and Japan. My membership of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers and EQUITY (mentioned in the acting section below) also provides public liability insurance for various kinds of professional activities. My membership of the Register of Artists' Models should confirm that I am a reliable and experienced model.

Acting experience

I specialise in the representation of authentic Japanese culture. Since the year 2000, I have appeared on stage, before learned societies, at museums and universities, performing the tea ceremony, as well as other aspects of Japanese traditional culture on hundreds of occasions. I often combine dramatic re-enactments of scenes from Japanese history and mythology with lectures that explain the background and how these aspects of Japanese culture may be understood today. A full list of my recent performances, as well as my lectures and study tours, will be provided on request.
In addition to Japanese cultural presentations, I enjoy exploring other areas of modern and traditional drama. I am good at playing the character of a socialite / sophisticated party lady, which may partly explain why Trinny Woodall selected me as one of the best dressed ladies at Royal Ascot; however I have also portrayed a futuristic high technology assassin and a sensual jewel thief.

Television experience

I am a Japanese woman married to an English man. I come from a samurai family and practice traditional arts, such as the tea ceremony. That has given me several opportunities to be featured on British and Japanese television.
My opinion on modelling is also a reason why I am currently particularly newsworthy. There is something honest and refreshing about nude modelling. It allows, in fact demands, a woman to display her body in a way that is not normally acceptable in society, especially in comparison to the conservative academic environment in which I work as a lecturer of Japanese culture. With a number of female anthropologists, artists and educators, I am trying to promote a wide ranging public dialogue on the participation and depiction of women in art. Recently, there have been several cases of female teachers who have been suspended from their jobs for the "offence" of being pictured topless or nude in artwork, academic articles and even during private recreation. Through sensible discussion and the presentation of all the positive aspects of women in art, we wish to change the attitude of education authorities, the print and broadcast media and the general public.

Presenting experience

I am an experienced Japanese cultural presenter on stage and screen. As well as demonstrating and explaining my own cultural skills (such as the tea ceremony, calligraphy and wearing the kimono), I am used to working with visiting masters from Japan, especially martial artists, and acting as their voice to the audience.

 | | | |
Music experience

I have organized concerts of traditional Japanese music, often as part of cultural presentations that have also included my performance of the tea ceremony.
With my connections to musicians and cultural performers in the UK and Japan, I am happy to help with a variety of projects.
I am a member of Equity and of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, both of which include public liability insurance for their respective members' professional activities.

Magazine experience

I have lived (and continue to live) a full and interesting life. I have opinions and anecdotes on many subjects.
I have been featured in newspapers and magazines in Japan and the UK since the early 1980s. This includes my own writing on a variety of topics, as well as interviews I have given and articles about me and my activities. For example, I was featured in the Condé Nast magazine, 'Easy Living' in August 2006.
