I performed regularly for family as a child and wrote my own musical at age 7 yrs, solos in carol singing/school musicals/childrens choirs/choral performances & Opera ACT,Australia, Classical singing lessons from 15years, vocal training with Canberra School of Music single unit.Teachers have included Lois Bogg, Ronald Maconaghie, David Parker, Emma Dean, currently Per Bristow L.A.
The Musicals called for singing, acting and dance so it was great to 'awaken'' all of these activites and being in a chorus meant I could rely on doing show after show, only needing to audition for principle roles.
My vocal range at the moment is 3 octaves, e below middle c, to e above high c.
1st award as a child for an Australian National Eistedford with Canberra Children's Choir, then for singing on cruise ships. Diverse music styles enjoyed and trialed. 1st performances were for family: pop & 'oldies'; then Ska band, reggae, rock'n'roll, jazz, tribal.
I do a project where I encourage folk to sound in natural spaces such as parks and forests, I drum and we do intuitive sounding/singing, getting people to feel they could be anywhere in the world in any century, to return to their primordal tribal selves.
As a NSW Ranger I took singing campfire nights. I enjoy the mix of health & music together to teach children - I did this in Vanuatu. I did a Brian Martin Music Facilitator course.
I am a trained Sound Healer with Soulvoice, using the healing power of sound waves, but I feel a calling to do it on a much larger world scale, for a balance of frequencies, which explains to me, why I hear what to put in, when a woman's sound is missing in a piece of music.. I incorporate my healing knowledge into all that I produce so it can be as beneficial as possible.
I can harmonise to anything, always hearing the harmony -- same as with putting in percussion, I hear where to place a particular instrument, like I'm just there for the ride!
As a member of Vulcana Women's Circus, I found the confidence and general training , very helpful in my musical performances also.
I collect sounds, especially organic percussion.
. Specifically they are: Aust.native tapping sticks - a range, shakers from Barcelona, Bali, Vanuatu - all with a range of pitch, some sounding like nuts in a breeze or pebbles on a beach. I have an ocean wave sound, rain sticks, tibetan chimes & bowl for sacred sounds; tamborine, and goard percussion of varying sizes/sounds/uses. Drums I have are mainly djembe of varying sizes, a bigger celtic one for hollow sounds, a converted huge drum for a deep heartbeat sound I use for healing or for 'womb' experiences. Chimes of differing sounds & bells, panpipes, zylaphone, piano, guitar... tbc
I own amps, microphones, head mike so am hands free also
I intend to perfect all the techno workings of my new loop station so that I can bring in sounds of my highest range prerecorded sometimes, to enable a rawness to sounds lower in my range. A fave thing to do is the creative license to sing drum, dance or play another percussion instrument where I hear it. I really enjoy playing and dancing at the same time.
As I can harmonize easily, (adding those missing frequencies of a woman's voice I feel), I have contributed my vocal sound to spiritually charged hip hop songs with some young San Francisco musicians and I hope to do more with this project.
Also In San Francisco I gig at the Pier contributing mainly to reggae covers and originals with Steel drums, I free sound vocally &instrumentally, and gladly take the role of 'the girl' if duets call for it- we have a lot of fun, & a fab contrast in our looks - my fairness with big AfroAmerican and Carib. guys! The tourists take so many photos of us!
I have performed in Canberra,Brisbane,Sydney,Maleny,Woodford Folk Festival,Uluru, ; Hampshire, Salisbury,London, Edinburgh, Vanuatu; Budapest,Keszthely Hungary; San Francisco, Barcelona,Spain...a variety of styles
