Reality TV experience

I did Broadcast Journalism at university and have done work experience with Heat Magazine, BBC, production companies and have presented two hospital radio shows.

I recently applied for the show 'take me out' a dating show for Talk Back Thames, but didnt get on.

I have also previously applied for shipwrecked but had to go back to university when the filming started.

I am a confident person, get on well with everybody and am just desperate to become more single-minded and independent as lets face it my parents are not going to be around forever.

Crew / Photography experience

I was 10 years old when I first decided I wanted to become a journalist. My passion for this career has never faltered and I recently obtained a 2:1 Broadcast Journalism Degree at the University of Gloucestershire. I am now keen to further my career within the media industry but am finding it difficult to get that 'lucky break'.

I am extremely passionate about television and radio and was very attentive when learning key skills in both during the course. It was exciting to learn the alternate ways of script writing for both as well as learning key differences in the way of presenting and producing. We were also taught the BBC Editorial guidelines and media law so we were confident about what was right or wrong to say in both word and voice form.

I put my skills in radio to the test in different projects and always aimed to stand out among my peers. I was never very confident when it came to presenting or interviewing in front of others but for my own projects I wanted to get great content. Therefore I approached Fern Britton and Phil Vickery to see if they would carry out my interviews. They kindly obliged and I worked hard to make them sound as professional as possible by using the software 'Sound Cut Pro.'
Outside of university I decided to join my local hospital radio stations and learnt vital skills in running and producing my own shows which were aired every Sunday. It was important that I got requests from patients beforehand so that the show was interesting and engaging for the listeners. Although I had to drive home every weekend it was worth it, I met some lovely people, inspirational patients in the hospice ward in particular and I always left with a smile on my face.

The television side of the course was on a par with radio in my opinion and through this I learnt the skills noted above as well as how to read autocue and commentate.
I put my knowledge in television into producing show reels and packages using 'Final Cut Pro' software. Our last project was in fact to produce a ten minute package alone. I threw everything into this and carried out a package about farming. I have lived on a farm all my life and have seen how the decline had affected those farmers in the area and this was my opportunity to show others.
After leaving university, I decided that the area I wanted to explore more was the production side of television. Therefore, I carried out work experience for wordia.com and Cat King Productions as an Assistant Producer. My role was to research stories and interview the general public, as well as up and coming stars, such as the band The Blizzards - confidence in setting up the camera promptly and efficiently as well as being fast and accurate at editing using final cut pro were essential. This experience has made me realise that this is where my real passion lies and my goal is to eventually become a researcher for a television company, working alongside a team of others who share my enthusiasm.

I know that this seems that I have learnt a lot already but having the opportunity to be able to engage with the producers of popular television names such as Dragons Den and the One Show would be inspirations come true. Furthermore, the training and knowledge from professionals is vital in this industry.

I am a highly motivated and conscientious individual who works well under pressure and has the ability to “hit the ground running” when presented with new challenges. I work well all my own and as a team and Adour socialising with any gender, social background or age and enjoy getting to know people on a level. I am very organised and work hard to reach deadlines to the highest standard and would benefit from this opportunity immensely.

Magazine experience

Before University i wanted to get some media work experience and so did two weeks work experience at the Bucks Examiner.I worked alongside the camera man getting key photos to fit certain articles as well as writing pieces for online pages.

Throughout my Journalism degree at Gloucestershire University, I gained experience in both Radio and Television. I learnt key skills in interviewing, producing, editing and presenting. As part of the course I carried out interviews with high profile celebrities such as Fern Britton, Phil Vickery, Alex Thompson, Andrew Sachs and Martin Bell. This opportunity increased my confidence immensely as it was key that I researched each individual thoroughly in order to get detailed answers to my questions.

After leaving university, I worked for Heat Magazine for a week and enjoyed it but it wasnt 'hands on' enough for me. Therefore i decided that the area I wanted to explore more was television - in particular, the production side of television. I, therefore, carried out work experience for wordia.com and Cat King Productions as an Assistant Producer.

Many Thanks for reading this, Amy Matthews.
