StarNow Awarded Best Business Application and Best Global Application at the NZ Internet Industry Awards, 2010.
30 Jul 2010
As finalists in 2 categories we were very excited to win both! Here's what CEO of StarNow, Cameron Mehlhopt had to say about the win means to us.
"It’s amazing to be recognised for our global and business application as StarNow is based entirely in New Zealand and is staffed by creative Wellingtonians. As the number one casting website in the UK and Australia as well as here at home in NZ, these awards further cement our belief that it is entirely possible to have a big impact internationally through effective use of the Internet. This win is a tribute to the StarNow team who have worked extremely hard to build a small start up into a business with over 1.5 million members worldwide. We look forward to sharing this win with our talented members who have helped shape StarNow and make it the success it is today."
Claire Fearon wins Best Performance Award for her role in 'Tree of Hurt'
21 Jul 2010
We recently checked out the student films at the 12th Sydney Film School Festival and Cameron presented the Outstanding Performance Award which StarNow sponsors.
The award goes to both an actor and the director who worked together to create an outstanding performance. Sydney Film School Tutors judged the award and the winners were: Claire Fearon for her amazing performance in 'Tree of Hurt' and Karan Shrestha who did a fantastic job directing Claire. Both Claire and Karan receive $500 from StarNow.
There were a lot of amazing short films and documentaries and we were impressed by the quality of them.
Actors 101 Wellington a great success - check out what happened here
16 Jul 2010
On Sunday StarNow and The Wellington Actors Studio held their first Industry Information Evening in Wellington. The event was sold out and it was both an informative and fun evening.
Comments from actors who attended Actors 101
"Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed Actors 101 on Sunday. It was really helpful and a great environment to be able to ask questions and meet people. Thanks so much for putting it on and please do more!" Francesca.
"Thank you for organizing the Sunday event at the Paramount, it was very useful and I gained a lot of information. I am so appreciative of your efforts and of the Star Now team, I am very impressed. I now realize there is much work for me to do just to get started" Pani.
Be proactive and get involved in student films. Casting Directors watch these films to find new talent. Make sure you have a recent headshot and if you change your look get a new one! Going away? Inform your agent so they don't submit you for an audition you can't attend. Try and practice what you do everyday. Keep training and gaining more experience. Casting Directors look to see who is taking courses and up-skilling. Know your lines and be confident and friendly when you attend an audition. Don't be arrogant or doubt yourself. You have been chosen to attend that audition for a reason so believe in yourself. Choose an agent that you like, it's important to have a good relationship with your agent.
After issuing a discussion challenge on the StarNow facebook page last week, we were thrilled to see some fabulous industry related topics being discussed by our members.
Georgina Duthy contributed some excellent discussion questions and was extremely active in other discussions as well. For this reason we are happy to award her with a free six month membership on StarNow!
