However, we also need to ensure that all casting calls placed abide by national minimum wage legislation (for example, the UK National Minimum Wage Act).
When choosing between “paid”, “unpaid” and “expenses only”, advertisers based in the UK will need to tick a box to confirm they are not in breach of the Minimum Wage Act.
If the advertiser is placing a casting in the UK, this message will display at the bottom of the casting call:
The owner of this listing has agreed to abide by the UK National Minimum Wage Act.

Equity has information about pay rates for actors, My First Job in Film has some useful guidelines, and UK’s media and entertainment trade union (BECTU) have set up Creative Toolkit, which offers advice on the minimum wage laws.
Some unpaid work may fall under “volunteering” or “collaboration”. However, a volunteer or collaborator has no contract and is under no obligation to work certain hours or perform particular duties.
