Katie has been dancing from the age of 5. Her first style she trained in was latin and ballet. Since then she has trained in many styles including classical ballet (pointe, demi, character), contemporary, jazz, tap, cabaret, musical theatre, acrobatics, hip hop, locking, popping, latin, acrobatics, funk, cheerleading, break, dancehall, and burlesque. She also studied gymnastics with Club Dynamite. Katie has focused mainly on classical dance for the past 13 years, but is now primarily a commercial dancer specialising in commercial hip hop, contemporary and jazz technique.
In 2008 Katie was a member of Urban Ignition Youth Dance Company choreographed by Claire Marshall. Urban Ignition is a youth dance company for advanced contemporary dancers.
In 2009, Katie studied at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) in 2009 in an accelerated dance program with the full time university students. This program focused on technique and training for dancers aiming to enter the industry. She exited with distinctions. She studied theoretical aspects as well as the training itself.
Katie has competed in many dance eistedfodds around Queensland and also been a member in many dance teams for her high school and externally at dance schools and companies.
Katie is currently studying RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) Advanced 1 ballet and plans to finish the entire syllabus. She has studied classical ballet extensively, aswell as pilates and yoga.
Katie has had extensive experience as a professional commercial dancer in the industry. She has been involved as a dancer for many award shows and a podium dancer for various Brisbane nightclubs.
Katie has taught dance primarily in ballet, jazz and hip hop. She has taught from the ages of 5 to 30 and from beginner to advanced. She believes strongly in offering development to disadvantaged children who show a strong ability and natural talent and believes everyone should be offered equal opportunities. She is now teaching at schools/studios around Brisbane as a hip hop/commercial jazz teacher.
In 2010, Katie assisted with the direction the event 'Dance With Me' which was a National Youth Week project, supported through the Lord Mayor's Creative City Initiative. Our mission is to show people how creative, fun & accessible dance is in Brisbane. With a mission to 'collaboratively inspire people to make dance a part of their lives, showcase all forms of dance, provide links to the many dance opportunities throughout Brisbane and to get a massive number of people dancing.' 'Dance With Me' had massive publicity and over 1000 people and over 20 dance organisations involved.
