This show has a genre mixture of teen melodrama and film noir and conveys a tone combining complex mystery, snarky humour, relationship drama, and engaging social commentary.

The show is a teen “detective” drama with a season-long Mystery Arc that focuses on a female protagonist who drives its story using narrative techniques while using regular flashbacks to fill in the story of the “murder”, which is a mystery that runs through the whole series. Each episode is made up of plot elements that focus on investigating a new suspect, and is resolved by the end of the allotted hour and new elements are discovered each episode that are clues towards solving the season long mystery arc.
