A personal attendant to the royal family, and a nursemaid. She is of common birth, but has worked her way into the inner circles through cleverness and perception. She knows more than people expect, and has won her place by knowing when to go with the flow, rather than trying to direct it.

Her fate is tied to that of the royal family, and she holds a personal affection for several of its members. Her motivation in the teaser is to see that Prince Demeter and his niece are safe.

A former military commander, Illiam served as captain of the city guard until the revolution broke out. He embodies the lawful side of the revolution, it’s promise of equality and justice.

He is a man who does what is necessary, and will need to balance the effectiveness of his methods with what is morally right.

Has been a royal advisor for Demeter, a man who doesn’t take much advice. He wants to be remembered as a hero in some way, despite possessing few heroic qualities apart from his bravery, caused by a naïve stubbornness. Because of his refusal to give in, he has become a quite competent magician, a field that interests him to no end.

Lieutenant in the revolutionary army, formerly in the royal army. Represents the chaotic, violent side of the revolution. The threat of what it might degenerate into. He does in no way shy away from violence, and actively advocates it as a necessity. This is by no means malice, it is simply something he sees as required to establish a new, more just order.

A man carved from stone. He is a magister marshal, duty-bound to enact the law by any means necessary. He has little room for mercy or second-guessing. Despite his enormous self-control, there is an element of violence to him, lingering just out of sight, only ever surfacing in the heat of battle.

At first he seems a form of instructor for the prince’s purpose, but his motivations are questionable.

Widow of the crown prince. Cool, yet with a strong emotional core. Even her quickly changing circumstances are not enough to knock her off balance. Attractive, but not necessarily in a particularly feminine way.

She is competent, but has a hard time accepting things that are beyond her control. She needs to realise that she cannot do everything before she can move on past her opposition.
