With over ten years of expertise and a lifetime of passion behind him, Rick Farrow is sure to offer something to suit your musical needs. An active professional musician based in Manchester in the United Kingdom, Rick specialises in drums and Latin percussion, but is also a proficient composer and arranger writing the music for his own projects, as well as for others. Rick is able to re-arrange and orchestrate existing works and pieces to suit the genre and ensemble depending on the occasion.
After completing an A-Level in Theatre Studies and receiving a distinction in Performing Arts, Rick went on to receive a First Class degree in Performance and Arranging from the University of Manchester in 2006. He is now an all-round performer, as at home behind the drums as he is in front of them, leading bands as a musical director or offering tuition as a drum teacher.
Like many budding musicians before him, Rick started out as a teenager, forming a rock band with mates in his garage. Since then, he has graduated to playing in wedding and function bands and a variety of live and studio ensembles. In 2010, a performance he was a part of during the Manchester International Jazz Festival was selected for playback on BBC Radio 3 as part of their coverage of the event, and in another year he arranged a piece for percussion ensemble and choir which was performed at the Robert Bolt Theatre, Waterside Arts Centre in Rick's hometown of Sale, Manchester.
Touring both domestically and internationally, Rick has played some of the biggest venues in Britain, including Manchester United's Old Trafford football ground, the Bridgewater Hall and the Lowry Theatre at MediaCityUK. At Old Trafford he was booked to organise the music that would provide the entertainment at a conference organised by the University of Salford; at the Bridgewater Hall he played twice, first as part of a Latin Big Band, second as part of a musical theatre showcase; and at the Lowry his services as one of Manchester's foremost latin drummers were called upon as he was among the percussion section in a Latin Big Band. Rick later arranged the prelude and entrant music for a small Jazz orchestra that would also be performed at the same theatre.
Internationally, Rick has played with some of the leading lights of the music industry in some of the cultural capitals of Europe. In 2008, he played alongside John Lee Hooker Jnr as part of a Blues band that played in Moscow, while in 2009 he participated in a live televised concert in Switzerland with former Rolling Stones frontman Mick Taylor. He was also a member of Connie Lush's band The Blues Shouter, when she embarked upon a 14 country tour of Europe in 2007.
Along with the European countries he visited on that tour, Rick has also ventured farther afield including the USA, broadening his musical knowledge and communication skills as part of a cruise ship orchestra that took guests around the Caribbean and throughout the Americas.
Richard is currently the proud endorsee of Yamaha drums, Roland and protection Racket Cases.
