During my lifetime from the age of 4, I have a varied level of dance experience. I have performed in many performances and in many different styles and productions. I have competed in groups and on my own this includes character and song and dance. I achieved a distinction at Grade 5 in Modern and Jazz, I have danced in Manchester for the Choreographic Awards in 2014 and have been filmed by the BBC whilst completing a Tapathon for Children in Need 2012. When I was younger I received a trophy for the most promising dancer and have won many trophies and medals for solos in Modern, Song and Dance, Character, Tap and Ballet. I won lots of trophies for impromptus which l had to improvise on the spot to a random piece of music and hit every beat whilst creating a character. I excelled at this as improvisation is one of my strengths in dance as I can be as creative as I like and bring out my emotions. I have attended two Dance Schools throughout my life with Angela Gravil Dance School in Thorne, Doncaster (2001-2011) and Joyce Mason Dance Academy in Scunthorpe (2011-2015). I love performing but really enjoy choreographing as I can put my own ideas into life and bring out my creativity. I choreographed a solo demonstrating the contrast between Heaven and Hell at GCSE level and I also performed a dance in the style of Dance De Rosas.
At A level I choreographed a dance explaining the story of Icarus and made my first group dance about a quote about wolfs within a pack, showing the importance of unity in numbers and strong frienships within the pack, when one wolf became isolated. I have also completed parts for other students and within Musicals. At Degree level. I have taken my Choreography to the next level, where I fused a three minute piece showing the water cycle, which started off as ice melting, into rivers, the difference in dynamics with the music changes to signify rough and smooth water and finally ending back up as ice, I had to design the costume (in every way from the material to the way it would look on my dancers) the stage directing (including the lighting and smoke) and making my own music to accompany the piece. I want to develop my Choreography skills and gain more experience as I would like a career as a choreographer and have my own company, which I would like to go around the world, not only entertaining people but using dance as a way to educate and influence people. I have performed with the Doncaster amateur operatic society in Hairspray in my local area and have done dance workshops with the elderly, I have completed workshops with people from the Participatory Arts and I have worked with a professional choreographer for my first year performance, which I throughly enjoyed.
During my dance studies I have learnt about different choreographers such as Akram Khan, Matthew Bourne and I have analysed dance works and live performances. Since studying at University I have gained an interest in fitness and I would like to gain extra qualifications to become a teacher and fitness instructor. I definitely want a career within the Dance Industry and I want to gain so much more experience as a performer and choreographer.
