Read on to find out more about Jamie, her passion for acting and advice for those new to the industry.
How long have you been on StarNow, and what prompted you to join? I have been on StarNow for almost eight years now. I heard StarNow being mentioned at a few industry seminars and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about, so I signed up.
Why did you want to be a StarNow Ambassador? I find people are always asking me questions relating to StarNow or the industry – and I love being able to help – so I thought being an ambassador would allow me to reach even more people and promote a website I love.
What's your number one piece of advice for people looking to make the most of StarNow? Don't give up if you don't get the first job! You're not going to be suited to every casting and you may not get any jobs for a while, but if you stick at it eventually things will work out for you.
What was your first job in the industry and how did you land that role? My first job in the industry was a short film titled ‘Parasomiac’. It was a university film and I remember my character had to fall over in the audition, so I was practicing falling over in my room before going. The audition went great, they even commented on how good my fall was! I was told I got the job a week later, and was filming in Mount Macedon a week after that.
How would you like to see your career evolve in the next five years? I would love to be acting full-time. I'm currently studying acting full-time and being able to act every day has been incredible. I plan to move to either America or Canada in the future, but would love to get some more Australian credits under my belt before I make the move. I love film and TV work, but would never say no to an incredible theatre role.
Can you tell Jamie really loves the beach?
Favourite Spotify playlist? I tend to make my own playlists, but my music taste is very expansive. It ranges from pop, to electronic, to rap and grime, and anything in between. I typically love all music except screamo music. The ability and range they have with their voices is incredible but it's just not my taste.
Favourite part of acting/modelling? My favourite part of acting is researching the character and really finding out who they are. For me, it's about finding out why I am saying the lines on the script. Another part of acting I love is being able to play different characters and bringing my own interpretation to the role.
My favourite part of modelling is getting that perfect shot and collaborating with amazing photographers and stylists.
Work it girl.
Guilty pleasure? Staying in bed all day and watching my favourite TV shows or movies. I have lost count how many times I have watched Friends, Gilmore Girls or Modern Family. My new favourite is Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Meal you’d eat every day? My favourite meal is lamb chops with mashed potato and peas, so I would be very happy if I could eat that every day. I love a good hearty meal. Otherwise I can never go past Mexican food.
Happy place? My happy place is definitely the beach. My partner and I walk our dog there all the time and anytime I need some me time I just head to the beach. I used to prefer the pool over the beach, but now couldn't go past the sand and surf.
Favourite social media? I love instagram. I love being able to create my own unique style with my photos and engage with other creative individuals. Snapchat is also a close second.
Best advice you've ever received? Life is short, don't live your life to please other people and do exactly what you want to do.
This really struck a chord with me – I may not have pursued an acting career if it wasn't for this advice. You don't want to live life with regrets.
Favourite actor or model? There are so many inspiring actors in the industry; one of my favourite actors who always inspires me is Bradley Cooper. I love the way Bradley works and how much he gives to each role. Another actor who continues to impress me is Emmy Rossum. I first saw Emmy on Shameless and was blown away by how raw and vulnerable she is in the role of Fiona. Melissa McCarthy has always been a favourite of mine, she is so physically in her body, its wonderful!
Words to live by? There is no point waiting around for things to happen, go out and make them happen.
