You don't need to have Zoella-level followers to get started as a digital influencer. These days many brands are far more interested in working with people who post great content that their audience loves, rather than someone who just has a large follower count.
They're looking for passionate content creators who love interacting with their audience and reflect the values of their brand.
Whether you have 300, 3,000, or 30,000 followers, the advice below will help you put your best foot forward when working as an influencer.
1. Add your social channels to your StarNow profile.
This may seem obvious, but you'd be surprised by how many people forget to do this. Adding your social channels makes it easy for casting professionals to see what you're all about – and most importantly, hire you!
2. Update your interests and experience.
Make sure you update your interests to include 'Influencer' so we can let you know about our latest opportunities.
If you've already worked with a brand, make sure to add this experience to your StarNow profile. If you don't currently have any experience, don't stress! Following the steps below will have you well on your way to landing your first gig as an influencer.
3. Be known for something specific.
The best social media accounts have a strong theme. Whether it's a favourite hobby, a particular aesthetic, or a topic that you're interested in, focussing on certain things will help casting professionals decide if you're a good fit for their project. Having a theme means you're more likely to attract new followers who are into what you do too!
4. Play to your strengths.
Are you a great photographer? Or is video more your thing? Or you may have a way with words. Put your energy into making content that you enjoy making – your enthusiasm will always shine through.
5. Be authentic.
We've all heard about influencers who've been caught out for faking photos or downright lying. However tempting this may be, being real, honest and authentically you will never go out of style.
6. Create a community.
Think about why someone would want to follow you and what you can add to their day. People love it when others share advice, tips and personal stories. Make sure you take the time to respond to comments, answer questions and interact with your audience. Your followers will be more loyal to someone who takes the time to get back to them.
7. Put yourself out there.
Ever heard the saying "if you don’t ask, you don't get"? Well, the same goes for influencer work, you need to put yourself out there and go after any opportunities on offer. Make sure you check our latest influencer jobs regularly and apply!
