The instruments I have experience with are guitar, violin, keyboard, piano and tin whistle. I received music lessons in these instruments throughout my childhood. Though none of these instruments are graded, I have an A in Advanced Higher Music with keyboard and voice being my two selected instruments. In this class I learned valuable skills such as how to correctly use dynamics to impact a song and how to characterise a performance, which I have carried with me into further studies. I have an A in HNC Musical Theatre and I am predicted to get an A in my HND, which I am currently studying. In HNC, I passed my Score Interpretation class where I learned theory skills such as intervals and sight singing. I fully believe that music theory is just as important as the practical side. I also have been learning how to annotate scores this year in college, and had to hand in a fully annotated score for my performances of Wizard of Oz and Fame. I believe that through all the various instrument lessons I have received, I have a good understanding of how to read sheet music, however I have always found that I have a particular strength in playing by ear. This is something I have been able to do for as long as I can remember and it has benefited me greatly throughout my years at school and college. This skill enables me to listen to a piece of music or vocals and be able to play the piece on an instrument without using a score or sheet music, which has allowed me to become highly skilled in harmonising, improvising and composing. I also been in a band, allowing me to have great musical timing and focus, and have recorded an album, giving me experience with recording equipment and software.
