Divided: Two Actors Required For Lead Roles In Harlow, Essex
The journey starts with the two getting on a train, perfectly cut and timed in which the each train carriage departs in separate ways initiating the split screen concept we are aiming towards. One train left, one train right. Shots then cut to close up shots of skin and artsy hair shots. This b-roll will distract the viewer of the on-going argument.
On her own, the girlfriend will be portrayed as sad/depressed and angry whilst on the contrary, the boyfriend is having a great time with his friends. This will hopefully create an emotional connection with the girl and a lasting hate for the boy. By creating feelings for the characters early into the storyline, the content will feel timeless and more meaningful towards the audience.
As the journey goes on, you get a glimpse into their completely different days. Their experiences/interactions will be shot artistically with prime lenses and art zoom lenses. This will give us the cinematic and detailed look we are targeting. As the musical score plays, in post, this will be supressed with a basic audio gain effect. Overlaying this will be sounds from their day; footsteps, eating, drinking, birds, running, and children laughing. With Foley such as children laughing; this will curdle with the on-going sad theme making the girl and audience feel uncomfortable.
Whilst on one side the girl is having a bad day, the other suggests the boy is having a great time. This thought process of the boy’s previous actions later hit him and realises he has made a huge mistake. Now sad too, he is on a mission to find the girl. He goes through oncoming commuters, hard encounters and depressing scenes. He accepts the fact that he has lost her forever. This results in the final scene showing him walking around cluelessly on one side of the screen and the girl on the other replicating. They then both move slowly towards the centre of the screen in which joins up cancelling out the split screen and they share a warm embrace and intermate moment that can’t be re-created.
With the split screen now done with, this suggests that they are now one again and content with each other whilst towards the start, the split meant that they had separated and had been…. DIVIDED.
