Male Lead Required for Indian Short Film (San Jose)
My film is a 15-minute narrative short centred on an Indian immigrant woman. It is a day in the life of a woman named Maryam, an Indian housewife, who, after her husband’s unexpected death, finally explores her agency over her personhood. Maryam is a new immigrant in America and has always craved independence. However, the norms of her culture have ensured that she relies on her husband even for simple things like going to the grocery store. Despite this being a source of unease and frustration, Maryam resigns herself to a relationship that allows women to only participate passively.
Maryam has been married to her husband, Asif, for 8 months, and they share a quiet relationship. While Asif doesn't mean bad, he is prone to not understanding Maryam's needs. He provides for her in the best way he knows how, but doesn't realize that this almost never aligns with Maryam's needs.

Asif - Husband
Asif is a dishevelled, lanky man. He is awkward around his wife. They're newly married. There's a disconnect between both of them since he doesn't seem to fully understand her needs but goes out of his way to do things that she didn't ask for.
Language requirements: Hindi/Urdu and English
Character quirks: Asif is obsessed with his FitBit, and is constantly tracking his progress on it.
