Reelz USA Documentary (ITV) Autopsy: The Last Hours of Debbie Reynolds
In this investigative medical documentary series we look at the lives and deaths of the biggest names in American entertainment history. Through a combination of interviews with family and friends, archive footage and dramatic reconstructions, we tell these stories and unpick the- sometimes mysterious- circumstances around their deaths.
In a career spanning almost 70 years Debbie Reynolds' life and death was the stuff of legend. The actor, who rose to fame in 1950's musicals, had a prolific and ambitious career and a resilience to match. Her breakthrough role at 19 in 'Singin' In The Rain', and other film roles, including The Unsinkable Molly Brown and How The West Was Won made her one of America's biggest sweethearts. As well as movies she starred in theatre and toured her own show for decades.
Her personal life was equally well known. Her first marriage to singer Eddie Fisher made headlines all over the world. When he left her, and their two young children, for her friend Elizabeth Taylor, the world loved her even more. Two further marriages both ended in divorce and financial ruin. But never one to mope, she picked herself up and worked her way back to her feet.
For the last few years of her life, Debbie suffered a number of health issues. But when she died the day after her daughter Carrie Fisher, in December 2016, the world concluded the cause was a broken heart.
