Variety Of Small Roles Available For Ambitious Music Video in Huddersfield
Alternative band Bad Pollyanna are looking for enthusiastic actors to play a variety of small roles in their music video ‘Pair Of Fools,’ the first chapter of a trilogy of videos which explore the concept of our shadow selves. The look and feel is 1920s silent films meets David Lynch style surrealism but with a hefty dose of emotion and heart. These films aren’t X-rated or horror-esque but do feature some mild sexual themes and violence and definitely wouldn’t come under the category of ‘family friendly.’ Therefore if you’re easily offended this isn’t the video for you.
The video follows an unidentified woman through a nightmarish party where she is forced to come face to face with her demons. Stalking her is a character we refer to as ‘The Shadow.’ Sensual, aggressive and unhinged she constantly tries to reach the protagonist (represented mainly by POV shots) but our heroine is too afraid to face her.
The Shadow’s domain is the largest room in the house where guests are enjoying a party. As The Shadow demands to be paid attention to, the scene gets more and more out of control.
Your role would be playing one of the party guests. Technically you’d be an extra as you wouldn’t have a specific character but, as you will see from the role description, it’s not exactly your typical ‘extra’ role and acting skill and experience is absolutely essential. The scenes are listed in order of what YOUR scenes would be, not the scenes in total.
Scene 1 (Chorus One)
POV shot enters to chaos. The uninvited guests are dancing, singing and cavorting. Some sing around the beautiful Steinway grand piano, some are dancing wildly with each other. The Shadow dances with them, encouraging the hedonism.
Scene 2 (Chorus Two)
POV enters to fights breaking out. The previously happy uninvited guests are now crying and screaming at each other; some have to be pulled apart as they’re starting to physically threaten each other; things are getting broken. The Shadow sits on top of the piano, drinking in the scene, thoroughly entertained.
Scene 3 (Chorus Three)
POV enters to find a rave has broken out among the guests. Things have gone from bad to worse. People are starting to take their clothes off, some guests are getting way too amorous with each other, a man rocks himself crying in the midst of the madness, strange characters have begun to appear, party poppers are going off etc.
Scene 4 (Chorus Breakdown)
Suddenly all eyes are on The Shadow as she sings directly to the POV from atop the piano. Everyone is mesmerised by her (this is to represent the fact that the protagonist secretly wants to be her). When the POV tries to get away the guests now block her path to stop her escaping. Now the whole party gets very threatening and turns on her. In the last shot we see that she is the same person as the shadow, but the scared, insecure and fragile side.
We recognise that it’s unfortunate that, as an independent band, we cannot pay people for this video and therefore insist that you must be local and genuinely love to act. In the absence of a pay cheque, we at least want you to have a fantastic day and be a part of something we’re all proud of.
Non negotiables. Actors must be:
Confident on camera and be able to take direction
Local to Huddersfield or willing to travel at their own expense
Available to rehearse the scenes on Saturday 18th of January or Sunday 19th of January 11am-1pm and to film on Saturday 8th of February 1.30pm- 6pm. We may be done sooner than then but cannot guarantee it.
Despite the lack of pay actors must be willing to treat this as a paid gig i.e. arrive on time, be professional, respond to direction, be respectful of the property and, of course, other actors.
We’re really looking forward to seeing your auditions and, hopefully, meeting you in person.

This job is unpaid - As mentioned above, we know it's rubbish that we don't have the budget to pay the party guests for this. It's a labour of love for us and a story we want to tell.
