Three models backstage a show, engage in absurd and unhealthy conversations about their bodies, only to find out they're dolls and the psyche of a young girl highly influenced by negative media.
We are looking for 4, culturally diverse female actors to be in a 5 minute absurdist dramatic satire short film about the negative influence the media has on the self image of women even from a young age.
We're planning on it being shown at the school's exhibition as well as put into all eligible film festivals.
The crew is made up of students in their 5th trimester studies all having experience working on short films before. The film will be made with state of the art, industry standard equipment and will be shot on an ARRI Amira.
Three diverse models Amy, Fatima and Nova appear to be backstage a fashion show. They're dressed in vibrant colours and are wearing absurd makeup and huge hair accessories. They begin chatting about things that bother them about their bodies in ironic and non-sensical ways, as the things they are saying they want are either unrealistic or do not reflect the reality of their appearance. They discuss the topics of unrealistic weight expectations, fad dieting and beauty enhancements. The conversation spirals and becomes more toxic when we finally cut to a girl playing in a living room. She is playing with three dolls that are dressed exactly like the three models, she also has the same few props for the dolls as the ones in the models' room. The television is heard as the girl is playing in front of a TV. We hear ads coming from the tv and commentary about weight loss, etc. The girl makes the dolls talk and what she's saying mirrors what is heard on the tv.
The girl hears something said on the tv about cosmetic surgery that scares her and upsets her. She pauses play for a moment. The tv continues. She begins to undo their tight waist corsets, hair and adjust their clothes. We now see the "models", hair undone, clothes adjusted. They agree to stop this show, saying that this is pain, this isn't real.
