
The father attempts to reach out to the son, however the son wants nothing to do with his dad. The film follows their individual journeys and how they cope with loss and grief. Some twists and turns occur.
We see the mother in flashback form, showing a happier time when the family was whole.

Beth loves her son and husband but hates to see them fight. She is kind and forgiving but also has a breaking point at which she will snap. Shows love and support for her family but doesn't take any crap from them either.

Mark is a writer who is struggling with the death of his mother. He has unresolved issues with his father which he is unwilling to address. As the film progresses Mark's arch takes him to a place where he would like to reconcile with his dad.

Cal lives next door to the family in the film. He is friendly and helpful to the family. His father is sick with a repritatory disease brought on by his smoking habit. Cal was childhood friends with Mark (the son).
