Summer of the 17th Doll is an iconic play exploring an emerging Australian identity in the post war world. It's a serious play, with moments of "ocker" humour.

It will play at Stirling Theatre in Nov/Dec 2021.
Auditions TBA.
Rehearsals probably Tue, Thu Sun from Aug.
Need to have Aus accent of the time.

The 4 main characters, Olive, Pearl, Barnet and Roo will need to be most, if not all rehearsals.
Emma, Bubba, & Dowd will be rostered initially, with expected attendance at all rehearsals over last 4 - 5 weeks.
If you have undertaken any Aus play before you will have an idea of the underlying ethos, and approach.

Rehearsals will be at Stirling Theatre Morris Place Innaloo.

Roo

Roo is/was the gang leader of the canecutters. Arriving for the layoff is differnet this time as he is broke. He is stoic. wants to do the fight thing. Doesnt want confrontation, but is agressive when pushed.

Roo's right hand man and faihful offsider for 16 years. He is the typical "wag" and plays that part with the ladies. He is a hard worker, and a ladies man. The events on the last cane cutting have put a strain in his friendshup with Roo. In the end he has more sommon sense than he lets on.

Early 20's. Pearl and Emmas neighbour. Olive doesnt seem to have realised she has grown from the awe struck little girl next door to the cusp of womanhood. Bubba doesnt fully realise it either and plays the role of the kid next door. Yet she is tsrating to realise she is growing up. Unfortunately, her role model is Olive.

Dowd

Dowd is the reason for the schism between Roo and Barney. He is younger, an stronger the Roo. The most recent cane cutting time has put Dowd at the forefront of leading the team. He has both empathy and scorn for Roo. He sees what he was, and what he is. Dowd is building his own life.
