Actors Wanted for Folk Horror Film

Actors Wanted for Folk Horror Film

Bath, UK
Listed by View details

‘The Family Tree’ is one of three short films that will make the folk horror anthology feature film ‘Rewilding’.

Mini synopsis:

An emerging young author on Britain’s strangest trees has one more tree to cover before she can submit her work to the publisher. She takes out a rural cottage for a weekend to study ‘The Macdavis Family Tree’, a tree that’s ripe with local legend. Tales of witchcraft are laughed away with the appearance of her skeptical illustrator Cardwell, but the allure of mystery soon takes hold – leading to a ghostly encounter.

Shoot dates and production size

The Family Tree will shoot through June and July 2022, with casting imminent. It's an independent feature with a fairly minimal budget, but we do have access to cinema cameras and widescreen (anamorphic) lenses, so it will look great.

What will happen to the film?

We are hoping to take this film to genre festivals such as Frightfest and beyond. We will be wrangling for a streaming deal towards the end of the festival circuit, without which the film will eventually live on YouTube and Vimeo.

As an independent film without the support of funding grants, the budget is slim. However, we respect working actors and can offer decent expenses packages.

The co-lead role, Lara is an author in her late 20s–mid 30s who isn’t quite sure if she’s got what it takes to succeed – but is going to give it a damn good try anyway. She has an inquisitive zest, a very English accent and a passion for mystery and adventure.

Female, aged 28 and over

Applications closed 5 April 2021.

The co-lead role, Cardwell is well spoken man and clever man with a reliable core that makes him seem older than his years. Character-wise he is very inspired by Christopher Lee in ‘The Devil Rides Out’, and plays almost a father figure to Lara. We are encouraging black or ethnic minority actors for this role, though anyone will be considered.

Male, aged 40 and over

Applications closed 5 April 2021.

The owner of an Air B&B cottage, this is a small but memorable role as Phillipa is vibrant, encouraging and subtly eccentric. We are looking for a woman in her late 40s, 50s or 60s.
