Two Male Actors Required for an Experimental Theatre Festival Run

Two Male Actors Required for an Experimental Theatre Festival Run

Manchester, UK. Apply from all UK.

You Don't Know Me But I Think You Should (working title) is a new piece of amateur experimental theatre to be performed at the 2021 Camden and Edinburgh Fringes. The play is a comedic drama following Harry and Jamie, two men who have no connection with one another (outside of an old one-night stand) who meet again on the London tube one morning. From that point onwards, the audience is placed in charge of Harry's actions, making decisions on his behalf and shaping the story in the direction they choose. As such, the play is truly 'different every night', adapting its path and outcome to the audience's desires. The play explores themes of journey, connection, and identity, and juggles ideas of fate and destiny, investigating just how much influence one human can have over another. Actors applying to the role will not be required to do any active improvisation but should be willing and able to commit to a workload large enough to sustain a play with multiple options. Auditions will take place online, as will early rehearsals, but actors should be available for in-person rehearsals later in the process, and to be available for performance dates in mid-August (all travel, expenses, and accommodation costs to be covered by haywire Theatre). This a self-funded project aiming to be supported by additional fundraising. In the eventuality that more funding than expected is acquired we aim to reimburse actors for as much of their time as possible, but cannot promise this under current circumstances. We will, of course, work around actor schedules for as much of the project as possible.

haywire Theatre is a newly established company, making their debut at the Camden and Edinburgh Fringes this year but with individual experience in creating award-winning and record-breaking work. Our digital season, The Pocketfull Project, premiered in the summer of 2020 to great reception and audience response. Ahead of a regional commercial partnership at the end of 2021, we're looking to expand our horizons and work with new talent, and are excited to see what new actors can bring to this show and to our company!

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

Rehearsals will begin the start of June (online in early stages, transitioning to in-person rehearsals based in Manchester City). Performance dates are currently being finalised, but we are aiming for 10 days in the middle two weeks of August (9th-22nd).
