Wanted: Irish woman, late 20s
Fee: €100, plus expenses. Regrettably I cannot offer more because currently I am funding this from my own resources. If I obtain some funding through Kickstarter or elsewhere, the fee will increase accordingly.
Title: Burnt Soup
Film Description: A 20-minute short. Lois and Philip host Gia and Dennis to dinner, but when Dennis fails to show up, the fractures within both relationships are exposed. The film unfolds in real time, exclusively located within Lois and Philip’s kitchen and dining room.
Shooting days: 3-4, early or mid-September
Role: Lois Tierney is a successful professional, who has just been offered a position at a major firm in her chosen industry. She is an accommodating, temperate person, to whom others usually look as a source of stability. She conceals certain emotions and thoughts from others, and is beginning to build up resentment about unresolved conflicts in her life. Her doubts about this job offer, and about her relationship with Philip, who’s several years younger than her, lead her to question the lies that have become integral to her daily life. The events of the story bring her to the conclusion that she is no longer satisfied in making do with her own dishonesty, and the dishonesty of the people around her. Her conflict is a common one to many twentysomethings: whether to sacrifice her truthful self in order to have a picturesque life, or to speak honestly and risk the loss of a lifestyle.
Please attach a recording of Lois’s monologue. You do not need to deliver a full performance, a simple reading would suffice, as long as it puts across something of your specific approach and expression.
(monologue link provided upon application).
If you are, for some reason, unable to record this piece, a showreel or some other monologue would be acceptable, though the attached monologue would be preferred.
No CV is required, but if you have training or experience that you feel is relevant, please mention this in your email.
If you are unsure whether to apply, and would like to see some sample of my prior work, get in touch by private message or email. Applying to an ad of this nature is a vulnerable activity, and I understand if you would like to see some evidence of my professionalism.
