City Park Radio in Launceston are putting together a ten episode Western radio serial, inspired by old series like The Lone Ranger. Featuring a colourful cast of characters, CPR are looking for volunteer voice actors to play them. The ten episodes will run for ten to fifteen minutes in length each, and recordings will take place on Saturday mornings from 10 or 11 AM through to 2 PM. We also welcome your creative input to try and make the most of your talents and improve the series where it needs it. If you make it through you'll be joining a warm and friendly team of cast and crew and will work towards making this series the best it can be.

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

Meetings, rehearsals and recordings will begin in March at the CPR studios.

John - The kind-of-protagonist

A former outlaw turned lawman, John enjoys a quiet life in his frontier town, before he's forced by an old rival, a Texas Ranger, to hunt down a wanted outlaw in Mexico. He's well liked within his community, and doesn't have any regrets about his past. He should sound rough and gruff, although he's mostly polite and well mannered, there will be a bit of shouting and long monologues about his life and the story.

Males, aged 20 to 40

  • Accents: USA Southern

Cathryn

Once a champion sharpshooter now a widow stuck with a failing farm, Cathryn is an old acquaintance of John's, and the first he turns to for help. She tags along claiming to be looking out for John's welfare, but she might be looking for some moving targets to shoot. Nearly always sounding bright, even sarcastically optimistic, her manner of speaking is far from soft and with a heavy Southern accent.

Females, aged 18 to 35

  • Accents: USA Southern

Morwenna

Morwenna is a Native American woman born and raised in white civilisation, who longs for freedom outside the walls of the tailor where she works. She convinces John to bring her along and does her best to equip herself for the mission. Maureen's manner of speaking is very stern and controlled, almost monotone, not bored but there's a feeling she's an outsider, above the madness around her.

Females, aged 18 to 35

Javier, Mexican Lawman

Javier is a Mexican lawman who's made to join the posse to hunt the outlaw. Suave, charming, almost infuriatingly optimistic, it turns out he's the one who's been hired to lead the gang. Despite being charitable, he admits money is a driving factor behind a lot of his heroics. His manner of speaking is calm and controlled, never panicked or angry, and of course he speaks with a Mexican accent.

Males, aged 18 to 40

Albert

Albert is an African American railway worker, who longs to explore the country and be a cowboy. He leaps at the chance to join John on the bounty hunt. Quick witted and charismatic, Albert joins John, Cathryn and Morwenna as one of the bystanders completely bewildered by the insanity of the situations they're in and the characters they meet. While the character is black, the role is open to anyone with the right tone of voice and charm.
