Television Slob

A thirty-five year old middle class man. He spends his time indulging in cookery programmes – seduced into some kind of paroxysm. He doesn’t aspire to anything more. We require a heavily built man for this role. The part played will consist of eating fast food in front of a TV while sat on a couch, seemingly mesmerised by the TV. This is a non-speaking role and expressions are key to conveying the sense of loneliness that this character feels. A vomiting scene may be required.

Male, aged 30 to 45

Cookery Presenter (Nigella)

A woman in her twenties, she is very flirtatious and obsessed with food. She has a powerful presence, amplified by the stern if not slightly maddened look in her eyes. She has built her life around cooking – cooking for family, friends, camera crews – everyone. Her life is in this cookery programme. We require a slim/curvy female with wavy hair, ideally dark hair (with a likeness to Nigella is preferable, but by no means essential). Females aged 20-38 located in Bournemouth

White Aborigine

This is a white man who is dressed as an Australian Aborigine. He is fed up with the representation/role he is playing but goes with it anyway because this is custom. He essentially acts the performing monkey, and is maybe quite robotic, though he can perform intensely on demand.

Minstrel

He is thirty, tall, dark and likes his chicken. He is also a criminal. And a minstrel character. He stands for all the token roles dished out to black people throughout time, and displays segments of each characteristic as if he is bipolar – he is ignorant, lazy, violent, happy, and briefly an ‘Uncle-Tom’.

  • Acting experience: Previous unpaid speaking roles, Previous paid speaking roles

Temptress

She is maybe eighteen years old. There is a sexual aura about her (she is wearing next to nothing) and yet we are not attracted to her. Her eye-makeup is congealed and spidery, her demeanour is limp and depressing, and she is sad. She stands for every “liberated” half-naked woman on billboards, movie posters and in advertisements/films. She is sad because she has been reduced to this one dimensional image that we see every day in music videos, films and anywhere women are featured. This chara

Italian Man

He is thirty-something, has a wife, children, and likes spaghetti. He is a family man, a mamma’s boy, an Italian stallion – the personification of all that America has to say about Italians. He is incompetent, fumbling, distracting and somewhere in there there is something lurking of the Mafia... of violence. As an expressive piece, this actor is required to play a non-speaking role and expressions are key to conveying the sense of ostracisation from society that this character feels.
