Actors wanted for Those Who Wait, sitcom BLAP - Exeter

Exeter, UK
Listed by View details

Myself and my co-writer are searching for enthusiastic experienced actors to perform in a comedy BLAP we are submitting to channel four. This is, of course, un-paid and on no budget, but we are putting a lot of time into it, and we are hoping for a pilot which we may get if what we produce is good enough.

Unfortunately there is no budget whatsoever, as we have no funding, but we have faith in what we have written!

The audition date is Sat 4th August, and this will be held at Withycome Parish Church, Withycombe Raleigh, Exmouth. Shooting will be in the area (on location) the following weekend (possible reheasal on Friday 10th in the same hall.)

Shooting will be done with a semi-professional trained crew, and edited in Final Cut.

Those Who Wait is a sitcom based around the lives of four artists struggling to find work after graduation. There is some strong language and adult themes. The comedy is in a dramatic, semi-Gervaisian style. If this isn't your cup of tea, you need not apply. Ages are approximate so don't be put off if you're a little older/younger. Please see roles section

Reply to this ad with as much info, and only if you can make both of the shooting dates. We will then send you the script to learn some lines from for the audition, and please bring a printed CV. Please also suggest a character you would like to audition for.

Jack Peacock

Jack is a depressive artist. He writes songs, and words and has recently finished a musical. Although good-looking, he is timid in nature, and often indecisive. He relies on Rupert and Lynnie for much of his support. Although hugely talented, he is painfully shy, and this has meant, despite his looks, he is unlucky in love. He often over-reacts about small things, and gets stressed out easily. He twitches his leg as he works.

Male, aged 21 to 25

  • Acting experience: No previous acting experience, Previous unpaid speaking roles

Applications closed 2 August 2012.

Rupert Suckling

Rupert is calm and aloof. He has a completely romanticised view of the world, and cannot understand certain things. He doesn’t really fit in, and his writings are obscure, but oddly engaging. He can get along with people in a way that Jack can’t, and has a patience and tolerance for Jack that many wouldn’t. Rupert has a heart of gold, but his out-of-touch nature, and obscure views annoy Jack, and their banter is always funny. He has a pathetic nervous cough.

Male, aged 22 to 27

Applications closed 2 August 2012.

Lynnie Ashman

Lynnie is like a sister to Jack. She works him slightly differently to Rupert, by being hard on him, and making fun of his eccentricities. She is a film editor, and producer, and the catalyst for them all living together is a documentary she is making about the lives of struggling artists. She is probably a lesbian and is a vegan, and activist for any cause she can get behind. Lynnie can have a temper, and make flippant remarks, but understands the boys in the way most other women wouldn’t.

Female, aged 21 to 30

  • Acting experience: No previous acting experience, Previous unpaid speaking roles

Applications closed 2 August 2012.

Felix Troop

Felix is a housemate Lynnie chooses to occupy the spare room they’re allowed to sub-let. He is a sculptor, and has a slightly macabre taste, and is a little bit intimidating to the likes of Jack, although Rupert somehow manages to win Felix’s trust and friendship.

Male, aged 24 to 32

  • Acting experience: No previous acting experience, Previous unpaid speaking roles

Applications closed 2 August 2012.

Hilary Blossom

Hilary is the slightly eccentric next-door neighbour, with a typical 'grandmother' style.

Female, aged 50 and over

Applications closed 2 August 2012.

Helen Peacock

Jack’s mother, who, although proud of her son, does not really understand him. Always outspoken, and with a stupid, drawlish way of talking, Helen is a great character to have fun with, and really make your own. Cockney accent works well.

Female, aged 45 to 55

Applications closed 2 August 2012.

Tony Peacock

Jack’s father, who has a real ‘dad’ sense of humour, and is quite old-fashioned in his beliefs.

Male, aged 45 to 65

  • Acting experience: No previous acting experience, Previous unpaid speaking roles

Applications closed 2 August 2012.

Bianca Knowles

Bianca is the PA for the person in charge of an arts grants council. She wins Jack’s affections without doing anything, and can’t understand this, but gradually comes to like him more.

Female, aged 22 to 30

  • Acting experience: No previous acting experience, Previous unpaid speaking roles

Applications closed 2 August 2012.

Gina

A homely worker at a pet store whose name Rupert cannot pronounce correctly

Female, aged 21 to 30

Hugh

A veteran worker at a publishing company who is royalist, and slightly short-tempered.

Darren Cobb

Darren is an opinionated radio employee, who always talks in a radio voice, leading to many humerous lines.

Susan

An admin worker with a terrible lisp

Female, aged 21 to 45

  • Acting experience: No previous acting experience, Previous unpaid speaking roles

Felicity

Darren has a phone conversation with Felicity. She has a whingey voice, and doesn't tolerate him well.
