Each season, a new group of amateur cooks enters the MasterChef kitchen and faces off in creative, high-pressure cooking challenges that test their skill and imagination. Featuring both individual and team tests, the show not only requires talent and resourcefulness, but also endurance and resilience.
The judges for 2026 haven’t yet been confirmed, but Series 17’s panel included Andy Allen (winner of Series 4), Poh Ling Yeow (runner-up in Series 1), Jean-Christophe Novelli, and Sofia Levin, all of whom could potentially reprise their roles. Check the show’s official social media accounts for announcements.
Kathleen Reynolds is one of the casting producers attached to Series 18 of MasterChef Australia. In a Facebook post, Reynolds shared that she and her team are looking for “passionate amateur home cooks” rather than pros with experience for the upcoming season. Their focus for this cast is simply “everyday people who love cooking for their friends and family.”
If you’ve never worked in a professional kitchen but you live for Sunday barbecues or handmade pasta nights, you’re exactly who they’re after. Passion, not perfection, will be crucial for success in Series 18.
Applications for Series 18 are now open via the official Cast It Reach portal. You’ll be asked to upload a recent headshot and at least three photos of dishes you’ve recently cooked. A short video introduction (up to three minutes) is encouraged, but not required.
You will need to be at least 18 years old and an Australian citizen or permanent resident to apply. Series 18 is focused on amateur home cooks, so only those without professional experience or training are eligible.
Filming is expected to fire up in October 2025, break over Christmas and New Year’s, and then continue until April 2026. Make sure you can block off that time if selected. We recommend reviewing the full terms and conditions before submitting.
While compiling your application, think about the unique selling points of your cooking and story. Have your recipes been passed down through your family? Is your food deeply connected to your culture or identity? Take your time with this, because authenticity and passion really count. The application process is designed to spotlight not only your food, but also yourself.
