What is The Farmer Wants a Wife about?

The Farmer Wants a Wife (or FWAW) pairs rural farmers with city-based singles looking for love – and a potential tree change. Adapted from the UK format, the show first aired Down Under in 2007 and has since become a staple of Aussie reality TV. After a few breaks and revivals, it’s now firmly back on screens with Natalie Gruzlewski (Getaway) returning as host.

Each season follows a group of eligible farmers as they meet a selection of prospective partners. They kick off with introductions and speed dates, followed by on-farm stays, romantic one-on-ones, group activities, and emotional farewells.

FWAW, however, offers a unique spin on the traditional Bachelor-style dating show: mixing in the very real challenges of life on a working farm. Potential partners must vie for the farmer’s heart and adapt to rural living. All this to say: Expect early mornings, abundant animal interactions, and permanently mud-covered attire.

Who is the casting director for The Farmer Wants a Wife?

Casting for The Farmer Wants a Wife is overseen by Eureka Productions, which is also behind the hit game show The Floor. No casting lead has been named for Season 16, but Sarah Lawther (Survivor) and Catherine Cantwell (The Assembly) were key players in casting Seasons 14 and 15, respectively.

“The stats don’t lie: This show works. Your chances of finding love are high, and this could really change your life,” says Judy Smart, a supervising executive producer at Eureka, reflecting the team’s desire to cast for authentic connections, not just TV presence.
